Renting a Car in Pakistan as an Overseas Pakistani: The Complete 2026 Guide

Every year, thousands of overseas Pakistanis fly home to see family, attend weddings and travel around the country — and one of the first questions is always the same: how do I get a reliable car once I land? Public transport and ride-hailing don’t always reach smaller cities like Gujrat, Kharian or Jhelum, and borrowing a relative’s car for weeks isn’t ideal. Renting your own is usually the easiest, most flexible answer.

This guide walks you through exactly how car rental works for visitors coming from the UK, USA, Australia, the Gulf, Europe and beyond.

Quick answer

Yes — as an overseas Pakistani you can rent a car in Pakistan easily. You have two options: hire a car with a professional driver (the most popular choice for visitors, with no deposit and no liability), or self-drive if you’re confident on local roads (you’ll need your CNIC/NICOP, a valid licence and a refundable deposit). Book in advance for your arrival date, and a good local company will even meet you at the airport.

Can overseas Pakistanis rent a car in Pakistan?

Absolutely. Whether you hold a Pakistani CNIC, a NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) or dual nationality, renting is straightforward. Most families visiting home choose a car with a driver because it removes every hassle — no unfamiliar roads, no parking, no local traffic stress — but self-drive is available too for those who want the freedom of the wheel.

What documents do you need?

The exact requirements depend on whether you take a driver or drive yourself:

If you’re driving yourself on a foreign licence, carry an International Driving Permit alongside it. If you’re not sure your paperwork qualifies, just send us a photo before you fly and we’ll confirm — it takes a minute.

Self-drive or with a driver — which is better for visitors?

For most people flying in, a car with a driver is the stress-free choice. Our chauffeurs know every route around Gujrat and the wider region, so you skip the learning curve of local driving conditions after a long flight. There’s also no security deposit and — importantly — no damage liability for you.

Self-drive makes sense if you’ll be here a while, you know the roads, and you want total independence for daily errands. Just remember that on a self-drive booking the renter is responsible for the vehicle. We cover the full trade-off in our guide to self-drive vs chauffeur-driven rental.

Either way, you can choose from our full fleet — from a fuel-friendly self-drive sedan to a chauffeur-driven SUV — depending on your trip.

How much does it cost?

Rates are very reasonable by international standards. As a rough guide, economy self-drive cars start from around PKR 4,000/day, sedans from PKR 7,000–8,500, and chauffeur-driven SUVs like a Fortuner or Prado from PKR 30,000–38,000/day. Luxury and wedding cars are quoted per event.

A few things to know:

  • Longer rentals cost less per day — weekly and monthly rates are discounted, which suits a multi-week family visit perfectly.
  • Fuel is paid by you, and prices flex a little with route, distance and season (fuel prices move often in Pakistan).
  • Everything is agreed as a clear, all-in quote before you book — no hidden charges.

You’ll find starting rates for every vehicle on our pricing page.

Airport pickup: land and go

After a long-haul flight, the last thing you want is to arrange transport at 3am. We offer flight-timed airport pick and drop from the three airports most overseas Pakistanis use to reach the Gujrat region:

  • Sialkot International Airport — the closest to Gujrat (about an hour away)
  • Islamabad International Airport — roughly 2–2.5 hours
  • Allama Iqbal International, Lahore — around 2.5–3 hours

Share your flight number and we track the arrival, so your car and driver are waiting whether you land early or late.

Deposit, insurance and liability

Be clear on this before you book anywhere in Pakistan:

  • Chauffeur-driven: no deposit, and no liability for you — the vehicle stays in the care of our driver.
  • Self-drive: a refundable security deposit applies, and because rental cars here are generally not separately insured, the renter is responsible for any damage during the rental. Drive carefully and report any incident immediately.

If liability makes you uneasy — especially after years of driving on the other side of the road — the driver option removes the worry entirely.

Practical tips for driving and travelling in Pakistan

  • Get a local SIM at the airport (Jazz, Zong, Telenor) so you can call, use maps and WhatsApp your driver.
  • Book ahead for wedding season and Eid — cars, especially SUVs and luxury vehicles, get reserved weeks in advance.
  • Keep some cash for tolls, fuel and roadside stops; card acceptance is patchy outside big cities.
  • Plan intercity trips with buffer time — motorways are excellent, but town roads and market areas can be slow.
  • Save your driver’s number and share your itinerary so pickups are smooth.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a car in Pakistan with a foreign driving licence? Yes, for self-drive you can use a valid foreign licence, ideally with an International Driving Permit. Many overseas visitors simply take a car with a driver instead, which needs no licence at all.

Do I need a Pakistani CNIC to rent a car? A CNIC or NICOP is preferred for self-drive. For chauffeur-driven bookings, a passport or NICOP is usually enough — message us and we’ll confirm for your situation.

Can you pick me up from Sialkot or Islamabad airport? Yes. We run flight-timed airport transfers from Sialkot, Islamabad and Lahore. Just send your flight details and we’ll be there.

Is it better to rent monthly if I’m visiting for a few weeks? Usually, yes — weekly and monthly rentals are charged at a lower per-day rate, so a longer booking works out cheaper than day-by-day hire.
