Self-Drive vs Chauffeur-Driven Car Rental in Gujrat: Which Is Right for You?
Choosing between a self-drive car and a chauffeur-driven car comes down to one question: do you want the freedom of the wheel, or the comfort of being driven? Both are great options in Gujrat — the right one just depends on your trip, your budget and how relaxed you want to be.
Here’s a simple guide to help you decide.
Quick answer
- Choose self-drive if you’re a confident driver, want full privacy and flexibility, and want to keep costs down.
- Choose with a driver if you’d rather relax, you don’t know the route, or it’s a long trip, a wedding or a business day.
The big trade-offs beyond comfort are cost, deposit and liability — a self-drive car is cheaper per day but you leave a deposit and are responsible for the vehicle, while a chauffeur-driven car costs a little more but carries no deposit and no damage liability for you. We’ll break all of that down below.
What is self-drive car rental?
With self-drive car rental, you take the keys and drive yourself. You set your own route, your own timings and your own pace — perfect for confident drivers who value independence.
What you need: your original valid CNIC and a valid driving licence. A refundable security deposit also applies, which varies by vehicle and is returned when you bring the car back in good condition.
Self-drive is ideal for:
- Everyday errands and city driving
- Confident drivers who want privacy
- Keeping the overall cost lower (no driver allowance)
What is chauffeur-driven car rental?
With a car and a professional driver, you sit back while an experienced local chauffeur handles the road. Our drivers know every route in and around Gujrat, so you never waste time lost or stuck in traffic.
With-driver is ideal for:
- Long journeys where you’d rather rest
- Weddings, business meetings and special events
- Visitors who don’t know the local roads
- Anyone who simply wants a stress-free ride
A small driver allowance applies (around PKR 3,000 per day), and on multi-day trips the client provides the driver’s meals and accommodation. The good news: there is no security deposit for chauffeur-driven bookings.
Comparing the two
| Self-Drive | With a Driver | |
|---|---|---|
| Who drives | You | Our professional chauffeur |
| Best for | Confident local drivers | Long trips, events, visitors |
| Requirements | CNIC + valid licence + deposit | None from you |
| Security deposit | Yes (refundable) | None |
| Damage liability | You are responsible | None for you |
| Cost | Lower (no driver allowance) | Driver allowance applies |
| Effort | You navigate & park | Just relax |
Cost: what actually changes?
For self-drive, you pay the rental rate plus fuel, and leave a refundable deposit. For with-driver, you pay the rental rate plus fuel plus the driver allowance — but you skip the deposit and the effort of driving.
Here’s a worked example using our indicative rates. Say you want a Toyota Corolla for two days:
- Self-drive: around PKR 8,000/day × 2 = PKR 16,000, plus fuel, plus a refundable deposit you get back on return.
- With a driver: PKR 8,000/day + about PKR 3,000/day driver allowance = PKR 11,000/day × 2 = PKR 22,000, plus fuel — but no deposit and nothing to drive or park yourself.
So the driver adds roughly PKR 3,000 a day. On a short city trip that’s a meaningful difference; on a long or unfamiliar journey, many people happily pay it to arrive rested and stress-free. Either way, fuel is paid by the client, and we always agree a clear, all-in quote before you book, so there are no surprises. You can see starting rates for every car on our pricing page.
Remember that longer rentals cost less per day — weekly and monthly bookings are quoted at a lower daily rate, whichever option you choose.
Deposit, insurance and liability — the part people forget
This is the most important practical difference, so it’s worth being clear:
- Self-drive: you leave a refundable security deposit, and because our cars are not separately insured, the renter is responsible for any damage to the vehicle during the rental. Drive carefully, report any incident to us immediately, and the deposit is returned in full when the car comes back in good condition.
- With a driver: there is no deposit and no damage liability for you — our chauffeur is responsible for the vehicle. You just enjoy the ride.
If the idea of being liable for a car you don’t know makes you uneasy — especially if you’re visiting from abroad and haven’t driven local roads in a while — the chauffeur option removes that worry entirely.

Frequently asked questions
Is self-drive cheaper than hiring a car with a driver? Yes. Self-drive avoids the driver allowance (about PKR 3,000/day), so it’s the lower-cost option day to day. Just factor in the refundable security deposit and that you’re responsible for the car.
Do I need insurance for a self-drive rental in Gujrat? Our cars are not separately insured, so on a self-drive booking the renter is liable for any damage during the rental period. If you’d prefer zero liability, choose the chauffeur-driven option instead.
What documents do I need to rent a self-drive car? Your original valid CNIC and a valid driving licence, plus the refundable security deposit. Chauffeur-driven bookings need no documents or deposit from you.
Can I switch to a driver for part of my trip? Often, yes — just tell us your plan and we’ll arrange it. Many customers self-drive around town but take a driver for a long intercity leg.
